"A centre's role is to sow a seed in the greatest number of beings that will later ripen in the form of enlightenment. The motivation is always to accomplish the benefit of others with the wish that all beings attain enlightenment as quickly as possible"

It belongs to the Karma Kagyu lineage of Tibetan Buddhism and is placed under the spiritual direction of the 17th Gyalwa Karmapa Thaye Dorje and Kunzig Shamar Rinpoche. It was founded in 1984 by Lama Gendun Rinpoche, a highly accomplished yogi and spiritual master chosen by the 16th Karmapa to teach the Buddhadharma in the West.

The centre consists of 2 sites, Le Bost and Laussedat, which jointly include:

  • 2 large monastic hermitages for lamas, monks and nuns;
  • eight 3 -year and two long duration retreat centres for the transmission and intensive practice of Vajrayana meditation;
  • the "Karmapa's Temple" and a lay persons' hermitage for short retreats.
