This centre is the
largest group
of retreat centres and monastic hermitages in Europe.
It belongs to the Karma Kagyu lineage of Tibetan Buddhism and is placed
under the spiritual direction of the 17th Gyalwa Karmapa Thaye Dorje
and Kunzig Shamar Rinpoche. It was founded in 1984 by Lama Gendun
Rinpoche, a highly accomplished yogi and spiritual master chosen by the
16th Karmapa to teach the Buddhadharma in the West.The centre consists
of 2 sites, Le Bost and Laussedat, which jointly include:
2 large monastic hermitages for lamas, monks and nuns; eight 3 -year
and two long duration retreat centres for the transmission and
intensive practice of Vajrayana meditation; the "Karmapa's Temple" and
a lay persons' hermitage for short retreats.
