Long Duration Retreats

Preparing for the Retreat

Those who wish to accomplish a three-year retreat must make a formal request to the lamas in charge of the three-year retreats (drupöns).

Once their candidature has been accepted, students should conform to the instructions given by the drupöns. Students are expected to attend all meetings, teachings and initiations necessary for the retreat's preparation as well as to work at developing their knowledge of the Tibetan language. Their personal situation must also be settled in terms of their families, financial and health matters and any fiscal, judicial, or immigration matters that need to be clarified. Candidates must be completely free of all outer constraints that may disrupt the smooth development of the retreat.
