Tantras - sanskrit
Teachings which belong to the Mahayana or great vehicle. In the tantric or Vajrayana tradition one identifies with the result of the spiritual path. One sees oneself as already enlightened, in the form of a particular deity which expresses this reality. Through this identification one has the ability to transform ordinary experience into enlightened experience.
Tara - sanskrit
A deity which has two main aspects : White Tara symbolising loving kindness and longevity and Green Tara symbolising protection and the prompt activity of compassion.
Thangka - tibetan
A religious painting on canvas which can be rolled up for travelling.
Three Jewels (the)
Three Jewels (the) : The three sources in which all Buddhists take refuge. The Buddha, the Dharma and the Sangha. Also known as the Three Rare and Sublime Ones.
Torma - tibetan
A representation of a deity or offerings often made of flour and butter and used in Vajrayana rituals.
Tulku - tibetan
A person who is recognised as the present incarnation of a highly advanced spiritual being.
Tummo - tibetan
Inner heat developed during one of the practices of the Six Yogas of Naropa.
Tsok - tibetan
An offering of food made in certain Vajrayana rituals.
